The exact headline on CBC’s website is “Photogenic Possum Relocates to Northwest”.

They’re right.  The little critter is pretty cute.

Sure.  OK.  You don’t frequently see possums this far north and it most likely hitchhiked on a long-haul truck or in a hobo’s backpack.  I would expect the media to mention it once, maybe even twice, but they were talking about it ALL DAY on CBC Thunder Bay and they mentioned it again today.  Yesterday, my friends, was officially the slowest news day ever.

So, what will they do with the little guy?  I think they should put him in the Centennial zoo.  They already have raccoons on display.  Why not add a new species to their urban vermin menagerie?

If we’re lucky, the brilliant people at CBC will write an episode of Arctic Air featuring the little dude as a stow away on a bushplane that helps the sexy pilots out of some sort of sexy pilot jam.  Or maybe they’ll start a series called “The Littlest Marsupial Hobo”.  A girl can only dream.

I wish I had a great excuse for not blogging for about a month.  I mean, if I injured my fingers in some sort of horrible Boxing Day accident, I could point to that as an excuse, but I have no excuses.  I’ve been lazy and preoccupied with the noble effort of saving a helpless young lady from certain death at the hands of an evil somethingorother.  Yes, I’m talking about Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for the Wii.

Anyhoo…once Zelda is safe, I’ll resume my regular blogging schedule.  A girl’s gotta have priorities.

Anyhoo…JJ’s serves Chinese and North American food.  Sean wanted to go there specifically for the “Special Wonton” soup.  I snickered about the name until I tasted it.  That soup is certainly special.  Delicious pork, veggies, yummy broth with delicate wontons floating around in it.  The cherry on top was that the surface of the soup was covered in crunchy noodles.  A masterpiece.

Those dishes sure are exotic!  Who would eat that stuff?  What is this?  Fear Factor???

EXTREME TRUCK BALLS CLOSEUP!!!!

Why on earth would anyone hang a scrotum from their truck?  Can someone explain this to me?  What kind of statement does this make?  What is this person trying to say to the world with this scrotal statement?

While you’re at it, can you also explain to me what the heck this is all about?

How do you pull a car with this decal on it up to your mother’s house and not feel that there must be an undercurrent of disappointment in that extra-long hug she gives you?

Bolton is looking ill.  And I don’t mean “ill” in the colloquial sense.  He’s starting to look like someone I remember from my youth.

Anyway…back to the story.

I almost fainted, because I happened upon the horror movie that was a gigantic wound in my cat’s side.

Snoopers has always been a bit of a scrapper, but has never been a successful scrapper.  Before we moved to a house with a fenced yard he used to roam the neighborhood picking fights and promptly losing them.  I got in the habit of checking him over frequently while I was petting him to make sure he didn’t have any abscesses that were plotting to raise his temperature and dampen his spirits.  Periodically, our other cat, Robocop will jump snoopers and give him a few little nicks but they’re usually pretty superficial.

I found a few small cuts on Snoopers head and neck on Friday morning and didn’t think much of them.  I assumed he and Robo had a lover’s quarrel.  Then at the end of the day, just as I was booting Snoopers off my lap so I could go get Littleton from daycare, BAM!!! I felt a wave of nausea wash over me as my finger slipped into something warm, wet, and wholly unsexy. I steeled myself and spread his fur away from the offensive spot and saw a huge gash in his skin.  Now, my mind is probably making it larger than it was, but man…it seemed big.  From my brief inspection, it looked like it went right through all his skin and fat right down to muscle.  Blurrrrrrrgh.  That’s when my head started swimming.   Anyway…long story short, I didn’t faint or puke. I managed to pull it together and whisk him off to the vet.  They kept him overnight and sewed him up in the morning.

The vet sent him home with stitches and a drain in his side, some antibiotics and of course, a cone of shame.  All for the low, low cost of $500.

The drain is the grossest part.  It’s a flexible rubber tube, but that can’t be comfortable.

I still have no clue what could have caused such damage.  Maybe the fight was over a girl?  Oh wait, no.  He’s neutered.  Someone should do the world a favour and neuter these scrapping dudes too.

It’s true.  I have a brand new pair of rollerskates.  And here they are.  They’re lovely.

Why, you ask, do I have a new pair of rollerskates?  BECAUSE I’M JOINING THE THUNDER BAY ROLLER DERBY LEAGUE, BITCHES!!!

Can I skate?  No.

Do I know the rules of roller derby?  No.

Am I willing to bruise my ass up while learning the rules and skills?  Hellz ya.

My first practice is on Oct 2nd.  Wish me and my tailbone luck.
